Seriously though... I think some of the dilemmas that you mention regarding surface prep can be addressed through construction order. The main goal, unless modifications are intended, is minimal layers of work over the plastic. Paint/primer prior to assembly will add layers. Just sayin.

A few points: (1) unlike a metal skinned airframe this one is stretched canvas like a painting; therefore I believe my approach is quite appropriate to the subject. (2) I believe my work with putty and primer is correct, considering the age and design of the kit. Primer needed to be used as a method to verify that the insignias which were etched on the plastic itself were completely removed.

I guess I'm a bit lost on just exactly what you are saying Bruce. But I think you're doing a fantastic job and it's looking great.

A little night work

Below: Gunze Light Grey over GK Surfacer. You can see the texture shift similar to doped canvas. (I stretched enough canvas to have a feel for this.) I kept the primer raw to make a rougher texture more suited to a canvas subsurface - inspired by the way Carlos textured the wicker seat of his Camel. I thought I would avoid a too smooth looking aircraft. There is also a teeny fill that is not quite right (arrow pointing). Cheers.



V4 [Prototype] in factory doped canvas



I am very excited to see this factory-finish image (I know it is low resolution, apologies) again from a series of builder photos. This is the aircraft in its raw unsullied state before camouflage, personal and unit markings. Very useful.

Very interesting photo of the Fokker! Knowing nothing about WW1 aircraft, is that tail fabric-covered with wooden stringers? Would a tail like that be transluscent?
