On the shelf but not forgotten. Red 1 is just about complete but not ready for photos. The 262 is poised for the painting stage but I don't want to start it and leave for two weeks. So... I thought I'd creep a little forward on the 1/48 G-6. I'd gotten as far as laying down the RLM 76 on the bottom and fuselage sides before boxing it away. I pulled the plane out (the whole model fits entirely within the Eduard box) and added the standard RLM 74/75 camo.




Nothing too elaborate or fancy here... this will simply serve as a base for the white wash finish to follow. I'll probably added some mottling to the fuselage sides to establish a darker base that will contrast better with the white.


Instead of a uniform white wash, I am going to do a large mottle pattern of white, which is hinted at in the archive photos of Hartmann's Double Chevron G-6.

I'm loving that John - always liked the G model.

I'm liking your 262 in the background. What kit is it?

With so many build activities lately on SPAM, had forgot this beauty!

Glad it's back on the bench John, the paintwork is just wonderful !

It’s almost a shame to cover up that base scheme.... almost. Knowing what you are capable of with your painting skills makes waiting for the next phase a bit of pleasant expectation.

Thanks guys! The Eduard G-6 kit was gifted generously to me by Bruce and it is a gem of a kit. But I find myself gravitating towards the larger scale because it is easier for me to work on. Most of my future projects will be 1/32 or 1/35, I think. If you look at that photo of Hartmann exiting his G-6, you'll note the difference between the black chevron (which seems to be painted over the white) and the fuselage cross (which looks it was there before the white). I'll try and replicate that look, although it will be hard at this scale without the use of some kind of mask.

The 262 in the background is the Trumpeter 1/32 kit that I am posting over at LSP. I'm adding the Aires cockpit/wheel well set as well as Barracuda wheels.







The jet is just about at the painting stage but as I am leaving tomorrow on a 2-week trip, I'm holding off on starting.


It's a good kit, one of Trumpeter's best efforts I've heard. But the seam work has been challenging on this one. I've spent lots of time shimming, puttying, sanding, and scribing.








I've read that Revell will be releasing a single seat version of the 262 as a follow-up to their well-received 262B. So that might be worth the wait if you are considering a 1/32 262 build.

Thanks for taking the time to post up those photos John. I have to say I think your work on that jet is excellent and it looks fantastic even before paint! I'm really looking forward to seeing where you're going to go with it!

1/32's a bit big for me at the moment, but I have a Tamiya 1/48 kit in the stash that is rather excellent - I painted up the pit a few months ago.

Can’t wait to see this finish! Awesome!
