Lol!! I remember wearing lap belts like that in my 67 Mustang. Good thing I was never in a major accident in that thing!

Not to speak about the stiff steering column and of course no air bags. The main cause of death due to car accidents was a smashed chest until torso belts and retractable colums became standard. It's sheer unbelieveble what kind of accidents people are able to survive today. I've seen wrecks on the Autobahn...

Yes indeed! In my 30 years of law enforcement experience, I have seen some horrific collision scenes. And increasingly, with all the new safety features of vehicles, reduced severity of injuries. The cars may be crushed and mangled, but that dissipates the energy transfer and the occupants come out of it much better.

The auto manufacturers build today’s vehicles with impact absorption, restraints and safety systems at the very forefront on their design tables. The safety features alone account for a lot of their heavy weight. Survivability rates due to collisions is at an all time high and that’s not to mention the onboard communication capabilities like Onstar for access in emergency situations.

And yet I still loved my 65 Mustang GT coupe and am looking for a 68/69 Dart...
Thanks,

Onstar is something of a joke when it comes to communication for emergency situations. They provide less than minimal information needed to dispatch. At least that is my experience when dealing with the company.
