Thank you very much! This one is on the shelf at the moment. I've got so many other projects lined up, I don't know when I'll get back on it but I'll try to finish it!

Thank you so much for the comments, Marius! I do appreciate it. The camo that I've applied is meant to be a base for the white winter scheme but like I've said, this project is currently sitting on my shelf. Generally speaking, I've been building more 1/32 scale kits and I enjoy the larger scale due to my eyesight. It's hard to work on 1/48 now!

This kit has been languishing on my shelf for many, many months. Largely due to my shift to big scale (1/32) subjects. But I thought it deserved to be finished. But a shift in gears first. I'm not going to do Hartmann's Double Chevron but instead, utilize the kit decals and portray Franz Dorr's Bf109G-6 while flying as Commanding Officer of III./JG5 in Norway. He ended the war was with 122 kills, which were marked on the tail of his Gustav. For one, I like the scheme, which was the standard 74/75/76 colors that I had already painted and two, it had utilized the tall tail of that I had already built for Hartmann's G-6. And technically, I could keep the build title the same since Dorr's G-6 was adorned with its own double chevron.


Still, a couple of small changes needed to be made. The most significant was the starboard cowling gun bulge. Dorr's aircraft was identified as an Erla-manufactured G-6 and had the starboard gun bulge had an additional smaller bulge near the lower front edge of the larger bulge. Eduard supplied this part but I would have to do some surgery to swap the pieces out. It took some force to remove but it popped off without taking any surrounding plastic with it!


The repair was simple enough. I've also mounted an antenna mast on the rear edge of the canopy as described for Dorr's machine.


All was going swimmingly well with the striking yellow and black tail bands masked and painted. The crosses were also masked and painted using custom cut masks.


And then a hiccup... a bump in the road. I was too sloppy with the application of the gloss coat and left a ridge of excess gloss on the starboard side of the fuselage. I tried buffing it out with Micromesh and then got really ambitious with a paper towel dipped in iso alcohol to really make a mess of things.


At this point, a few days ago, I was ready to re-shelve this just revived project once more. But I was determined to carry on.

Damn. I hate it when that happens. I've had it happen a couple of times. I'm sure you'll fix it to where you'll never know it was there.

The paint job on the starboard side was restored.


And this is what she looks like now after a flat coat.


A bit more weathering and then the assembly of the remaining bits will conclude this build. It was a very fast forward presentation but the actual building took a bit of time! I'm not ready to go back to 1/48 scale any time soon but you know what? Eduard packs a lot of detail into these newer kits. And I don't have to make my own rivets! Impressive! I wish Eduard would jump back into the large scale waters.

A lovely build this far. Never seen one with a green spiral spinner. Eye catching...

Great save! I don't think I could of jumped on fixing it that soon. I also enjoy the green and white spinner don't see that very often.
