Well, those seems, YIKES!! Well done on the work. I hate doing that stuff because I know I will absolutely MURDER the detail anywhere near there. You managed to get it very nice and no casualties.

Look at the old original Monogram P-61 Black Widow box cover. They are well beaten and dirty.

They all were new at one time. I've seen several pics, colorized, from when those were in service and they were stunningly nice. Shiny is what surprised me the most. Black and SHINY.

Those aircraft were used hard. There were never enough P-61s to go around, and being outdoors on forward airfields in rough conditions led to rapid weathering. Especially in the PTO with the crushed coral airstrips scouring off the paint In the prop wash.

I love the P-61. Its been one of my favorites since i was a kid.

Thanks guys! I'm slowly getting there. I'd much rather build a dirty, slightly beat up war bird. Weathering is one of my favorite parts.

Finally got this thing ready paint. I started off with painting a white band on the bottom of the wings and booms in the approximate width I needed. Then masked off the areas I wanted to keep white.

Glad I realized I needed to glue the flaps on before I masked everything off, and painted it.









Then the black. Which came out a bit textured. Not horrible, and I'm hoping a gloss coat will help level things out a little bit.





Masking removed. I was planning on going over the white with a paint brush. I would have to assume they were painted on just like every other aircraft back then. They do look pretty neat in the pictures I have come across. I suppose it's all possible they went back around and painted them more neatly after D-Day. If anyone knows the answer, please let me know.

With so many missions, I highly doubt they had time to go back and paint it neater after D-Day. So my guesstimate would be no.
