Ah... this is the fun part, Bruce. You have the piece and a reference photo in front of you. To most people, you paint the thing yellow and move on but I sense a desire to do something more here. I'm not a big fan of drybrushing in high contrast situations (i.e. silver or white on black) but I can see it working here. Ignoring the glare, there is a lot of info in the reference photo that you can use.

Thanks, Carlos! I am finally well enough to make a few moves. I am going to try Dark Green on the seat. Tonight I received Roy Sutherland’s Cockpit Detail set. Rather than get overwhelmed with all of his beautiful details, I am concentrating on the telecommunications radio and battery boxes—placing them on the deck first, to get the forms right.

That’s what I learned from you—or I am learning—how to add something more.

There is a bit of warmth with as well. Your reply is amazing. I have to think about an interference layer perhaps. Or Future? Tinted? I think that is one of your techniques...

Telecommunications box?!?! It’s a radio!!! Probably with a SCR-___ nomenclature of some sort.... full of vacuum tubes and wiring in those days... ungodly hot and heavy equipment.... (yeah the commo sergeant in me is peeking out)

Seriously those those look to be a big improvement on the kit pats.

Stik—does the radio box look gray? I wonder if the radio box started out in a black finish paint until 1945-6, then became a gray finish. I keep wondering if the black and white photo I posted above is post war/early Korean War pony, with a black cockpit.

Yeah, I’m still in that “paint shit yellow and move on” phase. But watching you working on this is seriously making me want to venture out into this kind of territory.

Thanks, Joe! I found the kit original gun covers last night and I looked at how other 1/32 and 1/48 models dealt with the dropped flaps options; some kind of tab maybe? How is that rig coming? I am getting obsessed with rolling objects again. Note to self—stay away from car forums, lol!!

You are farther along in building than I, for sure. You quickly ramped up to speed by completing a series of mostly Eduard mostly Luftwaffe subjects, kits and subjects that are demanding of a certain skill set. Seeing you build with such confidence has been a great boon to everyone here, so you know sincerely what you do is appreciated.

What you are doing with painting reminds me of a body shop guy my dad used; the guy told me there are two kinds of painters, ones who take the car apart to paint it and others who leave it as much together as possible to avoid screwing up additional areas.

That said, I am positive I will follow one of John’s builds from beginning to end just like he did, his steps are always clear.

What I always appreciate is clear purpose—and I’ll take a moment to thank Carlos, because he is abundantly clear why he does what he does; and that matters.

That and calling a radio a radio.
