Thanks guys! The trick Lyle is that I lay some Tamiya tape around the area to help protect the other areas. I also use very narrow sanding sticks that I get from Hobby Lobby.

Good tip. I have those sanding sticks and have taped off areas...still looks like I hit it with a bench grinder.

I also use sanding pads after the main sanding to smooth things out.

Have a couple of those, too. I guess I don’t use a light enough touch.

Sand just enough to fix what you need to fix. Use putty too if you need to.

Here's a pic of the same area after using some putty for the gaps. I noticed that it needs some more work on the outside of each flare/chaff bucket.

Well everything from the tails to the LERX (leading edge root extensions) are done on SH #1. The front of the LERX nearest the fuselage will probably need some more work. After that it's the front fuselage and nose. I'll get back to SH #2 when I'm done with #1.
