I pulled the trigger on an EBay lot of P-47 books so I have a bunch of new references to pore over!


Playing around with tiny magnets this afternoon, i deconstructed a bomb rack and inserted two 2mm magnets inside and cobbled it back together with black CA glue. I also installed two 2mm magnets into a Tamiya 500 pound bomb as I did not like the Trumpeter rendition.


The bombs will now be removable! The magnets are not touching... separated by about 3mm so the strength of the bond is not great. I'm actually worried that the weight of the paint and decals may be an issue but we'll keep our fingers crossed!

Nice idea, John. I keep those magnets trapped in closed containers, easy to lose and bad for pets and kids, but very useful. I mostly use them on R/C airplanes so I don't usually have them that small

Those magnets, they really are the next level !

Oh that’s a great idea to use magnets with the bombs! The things often tend to break off in transport! Not to mention that those magnets give the impression of the attachment lugs on the bombs

Further refinements to the bomb and rack per pic. In addition to adding the lugs to the bombs, I've stippled Mr. Surfacer onto the bomb to replicate a rough, cast finish.


There is a little bit of friction now to help the connection.


On my second set, I am doubling up the magnets!

That's a pretty slick trick! The build is incredible, shame the cowling covers all that awesome work.
