This weeks work





I received some new 5" 38 twin mounts from Alliance Model Works this weekend and look good. My dog knocked off the kit box on the the floor. I picked up everything I thought but later I heard a crunch. My young Lab found the kit's mount and was using it as a snack. I'm glad I ordered the new ones I've ordered the SK-2 radar. I just couldn't bend a flat screen of PE into a concave dish without there being a crease. The one I ordered is more like the wire dish that really was. Looks



I've also ordered the 20mm Oerlikons in 3D. The PE ones just don't have any character.

And to add to my insanity, I'm going to start on the IJN Akagi.

I was talking to my wife last night and said I wanted to take it to the Nats but had too many things going on. North Carolina, Prince of Wales, F-35 and several GB's. She said so, do you want to take it or not? It didn't take too much of a push so....

Wow... wow... wow... I haven’t seen that much brass in one spot since a Division change of command ceremony long ago...

It's an insane amount of brass! I'm kinda in a brass mode now, I think everything would be better as brass or that someone makes an aftermarket piece of something, usually someone does.

Wow!! Ok, I'm not complaining about the small parts on the carrier anymore.

Wow all that looks wonderful! Them dishes you ordered look really good are they pre bent? I would love to have that Akagi with all the PE! I'm so excited to know you are going to be starting on it.

Floki I'm not sure but it looks far better than the Eduard part, even though I wouldn't have though that was possible.
I started looking through the Akagi kit and all the PE. Three trees in the one detail box was just for the under flight deck girders. The instructions on the other three separate trees are a little difficult to figure out. There's not a reference to a part replacement on the PE instructions or the kit instructions that I could find, even though the PE is made by Hasegawa. I'll figure it out...piece by piece.

The NC is ready for paint. The rest of the rails will be installed after paint.
Other than the 00 deck bulkheads that need some touch up, this appears all I need to work on. That can't be right, there's got to be more other than the small fiddly bits such as small boats and rigging etc. I do know I'm at the stage that I'm now tossing away empty sprue trees. I forgot, the new 5"/38 twin mounts are built. Not bad, I'll buy some more items from Alliance.


Akagi
The past two nights were spent with me trying to make heads or tails of the PE and relationship to the kit. Unlike Eduard and others who tell you which part to replace in lew of the PE part. I surmise that Hasegawa built the kit and added the PE as add-ons. There doesn't seem to be any PE replacement parts per say other than the girders in the "Super Set", everything else looks to be an enhancement to the kit. One just needs to keep an eye on all 8 sheets of PE to make sure you don't miss anything.

After making the 3x searchlights, 3 tiny parts each, and setting them aside so I didn't lose them, I went ahead and installed the bulkheads. Be aware that one of the stern bulkheads has an additional part attached and must be installed a certain way so you can attach the rudders, as if I was going to install rudders….pfft
