I also am thinking about the ribbing details. I ordered a batch of fine copper wire from John at UMM USA which came yesterday. I also have a groovy new sprue cutter with badass sparkly blue handle (real retro not fake junk). This small tool reminds me of what my Dad used long ago.



Also, these beautiful sprue cutters!

Some nice looking cutters Bruce I've been wanting to try them flush cut ones.

Night Work Part 2

Ribbing: 0.2mm copper wire
Green camo: Gunze Green, Holbein Shadow Green Duo
White: Gunze Flat White

Half done with added ribbing. I chose to do the center wing because if I screwed up, it would be less visible. I am stretching around from bottom to top - to keep the top ribs a bit cleaner with less CA. Quite clearly, I should have stripped the paint first. I will do the other half tomorrow, then I will sand and polish before testing with Tamiya White Extra Fine Primer.

Looks great Bruce! Does it look like you will need to make a sloped transition from the sides of the wire to the wing fabric?

Great point, Brent. I am trying to recreate the appearance of rib tape. I am afraid my description of “added ribbing” is incorrect. I would try Archer for dry transfers but the rib tape stands proud of the wing rib quite a bit, as seen in this sample sprue shot of the “Mengnut” Fokker Triplane Dr.1:

Ahhh gotcha,,, well like they say the devil is in the details isn't it. So you are going for a flatter tape like appearance rather than an under the fabric look

I’ve seen those flush nippers on Micro Mark and Michigan Toy Company websites. I have been debating on picking up one for myself. I am curious on how you like them, Bruce.

Interesting approach to the wing ribs and how to depict them best.

Could you use little strips of copper tape on the wings?
