Yes! Vought merged with Sikorski in 1942. I read that shirt logo to mean that they are working on a Corsair engine.

I've drilled out most of the wiring holes in the engine. The curved oil lines on each cylinder head were pieces from a coil of wire that I had wrapped around a paint brush handle earlier. And I've already made up the oil salvage pipe at the bottom of the engine. I'll separate all of the components before painting.



Just to show the relative size of the engine assembly... it a nice chunk of plastic in my hand!

It's coming! Hopefully TODAY as it is out for delivery. I already have a ball bearing upgrade laid out on my kitchen table. Probably doesn't need it but I like to do these types of things.

Off-topic Alert! No new updates on the Corsair so I'm going to post some pics of fishing equipment if ya'll don't mind.

This is the Shimano Curado 150HG DC. DC stands for Digital Cast and this reel has a digital cast control with a tiny computer brain that helps you cast farther and more accurately by monitoring the spinning spool and applying braking force as required. It's powered by angler-supplied force during the casting motion and it emits a distinctly characteristic power-up whine when the spool spins quickly. It's not just a gimmick as this is the 3rd or 4th iteration of this feature on Shimano reels.


This is a custom built 7' 2" bass rod. Rainshadow generously gifted me with a choice of their rod blanks for some of the photos I've taken of my friend's son Nicky, who is on the Pro-Staff at Rainshadow. Nicky got the components together and wrapped this for me. The Eternity is their top-of-line graphite bass rod blank characterized by extreme lightweight and sensitivity. How light? The rod, with the handle grip and titanium frame guides tops out at about 3 OUNCES total!


The reel matches the rod perfectly. Not only the color scheme but in weight too. The center of gravity is right at the foregrip, which is exactly where I want it.




This is Barrett Lake. Nestled in the desert hills of East San Diego County, it is the only lake in California that is stocked with Northern-strain Largemouth Bass. While they do not grow as big as their more famous Florida-strain cousins, they more than make up the size difference with their aggressiveness making Barrett a unique bassing heaven. The volume of fish to be caught here can boggle the mind and 100 fish days are not unheard of. I will be kicking off the 2019 bass season in less than two weeks! After the record rains this winter, the lake is up about 30 feet from last year so I'm really excited to see what the lake looks like with all of this new water.

That puts my stuff to shame, that digital cast sounds interesting I'll have to do some research on that. My father in law he was a collector of old old fishing reels mostly Shakespeare stuff he has over 2000 old rods and reels all in collector grade shape. Barrett Lake sounds like a great place for bass fishing we have a small lake lot up in Michigan close to a small city called bitely the lake is called east lake and it's connected to woodland lake via canal great bass and pike fishing. Haven't been since my father in law passed we would go up there sleep all day gas up the boat and fish all night it was great fun.

...and you didn't invite your friends? Man, oh man, that looks like a great place to spend some time.

First fishing trip doesn't happen until April 10 so back to our regular programming...
