Re: Latest Acquesitions - pt.3
It was funny cause it was in an anime themed store. At the back of the shop were a whole wall of Gundam kits. This was the oddball in all that.

Excellent score!!! The Ghost of Kiev
Not to mention your missus pointing it out to you...

Well I won the Hornet...

And I picked his up too - I'd like to build a few Helicopters this year. And having seen one of these built up today I was intrigued, it's pretty much the same length as a Chinook.

Nice score on the Hornet Stuart. The Havoc is as long as a Chinook? I would have figured it a bit smaller... perhaps the size of an Apache or Blackhawk...

I wish I'd taken a photo of the models as they were side by side - I guess I 'll have to build both to to find out
, but certainly it took up a similar amount of space, I was surprised by the size.

Re: Latest Acquesitions - pt.3
Just looked it up. Chinook fuselage is 52'. Havoc "excluding rotors" 55'10". That's bigStikpusher wrote: ↑Sun Feb 04, 2024 6:33 pm Nice score on the Hornet Stuart. The Havoc is as long as a Chinook? I would have figured it a bit smaller... perhaps the size of an Apache or Blackhawk...![]()
Chinook adds quite a bit when you factor in rotors
Apache fuselage us just under 50'
Re: Latest Acquesitions - pt.3
That sounds about right - seeing the two models next to each other, the Havoc really did take up almost as much space as the Chinook - I actually thought they were different scales.

Re: Latest Acquesitions - pt.3
The Chinook is a very compact helicopter especially when you consider its lifting capacity. A better comparison of size is rotor area and freight volume and weight lifting capacity. But the visual impact of that is less.

The postman rang twice today. Some essentials and some specifics for the coming large scale build.

I've flown aboard Hueys, Blackhawks, Kiowas, Cayuses, and Chinooks, plus one of those AS 350 types.... The Chinook is the only one that you can drive in and out of.
That is one big gunship for a dedicated attack chopper only to have such a large fuselage as the Havoc does. The Hind is 5 feet longer, but it does have a troop compartment behind the cockpit.
