R2800 build complete.

Image
Test fit, looks ok

Image
After I weathered the R2800 I decided I need to wire it up. Carefully removed reduction crankcase housing then using micro drill and .30mm lead wire I added ignition wires.

Image
The Hasegawa ingition wire harness is configured in an unusual way so I had to be creative to locate ignition wire holes at lower reduction crankcase housing...

and upper.

Image
Addiitonal weathering and matt varnish to be applied later.

BEST MICRO DRILL SET EVER!
Image
Since I got these I have yet to use my pin vice. These are great as using your fingers you get exceptional control with superior bite and a genuine feel for the work you are doing. These are used in the aerospace and electronics industry and are made in Germany. Not the Carbide ones made in China, see eBay. I just love these and highly recommend them.

I used a .30mm bit to drill holes on the Ignition Ring and Cylinders.

Contact Allan Sidney @ allansid@alo.com Allan is based in UK. Introductory sets are about £30.00

I got this 50 bit set with a nice range of .30mm to 1.0mm sizes. This size seems to work best for me, I am all about 1/32 aircraft. However, Allan will make up a custom set for you.

They are not bullet proof as care must be taken when using the fine sizes. I did break a .30mm and .45mm. Credit to the product it was my clumsiness which caused the breakage. Steady hand is required. Noting, I was able to drill out a 1/32 scale pitot tube and underwing antenna of my Bf109 to replace with wire. Not possible with a pin vice.

Allan was great to work with. He asked good questions about my needs and was most prompt with my inquiries. The awesome storage case is in short supply. As of October, Allan had only a few available.

ODDS & ENDS
Image
Lower wing root has slight gap when wings set and glued at proper dihedral.

Image
A little plastic card nested in the gaps. Trim and scribe to come. Big gap in center fuselage is where the center tank mount will be placed.

Image
Ejector holes on tail wheel landing gear doors filled with Mr. Surfacer 500 and sanded.

Image
Cutting out the nav lights was truly a PITA.

Image
Nav light cut out and will sand to fit clear lens.

Image
Barracuda P47 Wheels Block Tread will replace the kit wheels. These wheel sets are the only game in town for any P47C or D. Rendered beautifully and weighted. Care must be taken when cleaning the spoke rims. Tires painted Vallaijo Dark Rubber and a MiG wash applied to the rims. Additional weathering will be applied later.

I did the same fix to the wing / fuse gap on mine also. I found some of those yard sale signs to be about the right thickness and the right price. Those wheels look real good.
