Bruce, I call this the "Roy Sutherland mix", as it was him who once posted this on his blog. It´s rather simple, but effective: take some Future, add a little bit of water. Then add the acrylic colour you like, black or brown for shadows. You could use whatever colour you want to mix it into this Future/water mix!

Apologies for my delayed response; I neglected to subscribe to your amazing thread, which is the kind of "learning curve" I face as a new person to forum etiquette and procedure.
