Started a try-out process, using Tamiyas masking tape, what you see is not a "sharp", just trying out...
And this feels like a good approach..



Of course, scribing could also be an option....

Annoyingly, need to take a "forced" break with this project, as I will be travelling in my work most of the upcoming week.

I am adding this photograph once again here, but I would suggest that the exterior demarcation is quite possibly made by scribing. Perhaps if you use two pieces of "scribing tape," the Dymo kind of tape or the Japanese Gundam version I found which is clear, each wrapped around the bell itself to the top and bottom of the scribed line... or you could simply add the marks by using mechanical pencil lines to serve as a guide! Although one thing I discovered chez 1/72 Horten was the creation of raised panels by marking off sections then building these up with a thin layer of putty. I am wondering if you tape off the demarcation line then spray coat of Mr Surfacer if a correct version would be achieved. Judging from the initial photo I posted to this photo of the 1/48 Dragon kit the indentions are likely much smaller and more subtle.
