After seeing Kenny used the black basing method, I might go that route instead of modulation method. Duly noted on your advice for painting the tracks. My suggestion for the tracks is to mix in a dark grayish brown into the dark steel for the base color of the tracks. Then dry brush a lighter brighter steel onto the tracks.
