Pacific Coast Models 1/32 Fw 190A-1. Black 13. Belgium, 1941

Setting aside the question of gunsight type used for the A-1 Series, I did preliminary research both online and inside Torben’s reference library into types of propellers and makers of 1/32 resin versions. As I thought, Eagle Parts makes a 1/32 resin hub and common blades for the A-1 through A-8 Series, which offer improvements in detail and design:

There appears to be a makers mark stenciled on the back of each blade. Decals? From whom? EagleCal, perhaps.

Big scale Focke-Wulf... now we're talking! Excited to see this build since I have no experience with Pacific Coast Models. The kit looks great and Brett Green's review at Hyperscale is very positive.

I'm guessing those prop stencils can be had on any Eagle Cal Non-Dora decal sheet. See Decal #'s 41, 42 and 43 below.



I'm also guessing that the Revi 12 is the correct gun sight for the A-1 and not the Revi 16, which is featured on the Doras.

The photo you posted looks like it is showing a Revi 12 based on the padding on the front of the gunsight. The Revi 16 didn't have this padding.

Thank you, John! Welcome back. Welcome home. Thank you so much for your answers. I was feeling a little stuck in the mud, which seems appropriate to the weather outside at the moment. I thank you for getting me unstuck. It appears with a 1/32 Fw 190 early A series build the pathways lead to EagleCals or possibly the fella who took over Jerry Rutman’s castings (Greybeard? Something Tolkein-Games Workshop related) on eBay. Eduard makes a “Look” version of the A-5 IP which I have not compared yet with the version Eduard made for the kit. I checked Henri Dehane’s invebtory list and he makes a propeller kit for the Hasegawa A-5. Wayne Little built this same kit as an A-1 in 2011. His project may be found at this link:

Carlos! Hullo! It’s never too early or too late for popcorn. My mind is still trying to work around the Andy Warhol Super Bowl ad. Also, welcome back from your trip! It’s good to have you home here in SoCal once again. I was thinking about buying this old True Details Fw 190 Cockpit Set for either A-5 or A-8 off of eBay as a cockpit paint tester. I need to post a shot of the Eduard IP, too because it is the early type of Eduard colored PE.



Note: I think I can look up which aircraft the kit is designed for by looking up the product number.

Carlos, Thanks for your reply. Your schedule is a challenge, no doubt, and your work more so. You have my sincere respect for your dedication to your job. Sincerely. After my buddy Joe joined the paramedics he started off talking about the craziness of what he was experiencing, then he stopped or modified what he was saying outside of “the office.” After that, his friends figured out that the last thing he wanted was to rehash his work with others. One of my favorite films of 2018 was “The Guilty,” which describes what a shift is like in an emergency call center through the eyes of a detective who has been assigned to these duties while an investigation into his conduct is ongoing. His response and advice to the calls he receives is tempered by a nearly polarized world view at first. His view changes as he becomes invested in a murder call, which he ultimately solves over the phone at the cost of his own career. No, not a comedy, I’m afraid.

Is the True Details cockpit designed for the first generation of Fw 190 (A-5/A-7/A-8/G-3) from 1970 or the new tool version of 2003? The wider cockpit design seems to indicate this is for the Seventies tooling. Is that the version you have?

My trial hypothesis of the origin for this kit is Hasegawa, so Hasegawa bits and pieces may offer solutions for areas where I am going to modify. In 2011, Hasegawa released an A-7 kit based on this Seventies version. That’s quite a lengthy run for plastic molds!

I am also looking at Radu’s Seatbelts. I found these through EagleCal. So, once again, the path leads back there. Here’s the link:

Yes, I'm back from my travels. Still adjusting to the time difference and need to process/post over 3,000 photos so I won't be jumping onto the modeling bench for a while.

Is your kit complete? Based on Brett Green's review, it looks like the prop stencil decals are provided on the kit decal sheet. See decal #46. Printed by Cartograf so quality should be excellent.


And isn't the cockpit tub resin? If so, I wouldn't bother buying another resin cockpit for it.


Out of the box should yield a good representation of an early Anton!

John, you are right. My apologies. I am used to having to source and fix things and here the kit makers already provided and I am still operating without paying attention to what is already there. This is one special kit. Everything is there. I just need to build it. I am so used to having a ramp up to building, that “free space” of thinking through possibilities, that I need to toss that “wool gathering” and get busy building—to “Shut up and build,” I suppose. Although I still think the fabric Eduard attaches to the PE to aid their pad printing is very odd looking. It only looks good when seen from the front. Maybe that was their thinking? Did you use to sand this down then dull coat it?

Your work always inspires me. When you go in another direction with the cockpit there is still a lot to learn about painting and detailing:

Regarding the shots, are you processing at 5K? The images I have seen are outstanding. You’re using the latest Canon with lots of sensor detail... I will take this down if it’s not appropriate, but I do love photographing animals, and your image reminds me that I need to do that soon.

That's an excellent idea for an old abandoned truck or car hull diorama sitting right behind that shrub there off to the left. Good photo.

I'm with John on using that OOB cockpit tub as that one looks like it has more than plenty of details.
