:P1: What Kari said!

At this point, with tired, old eyes, I will hit it with a light coat of silver or black, then sand the filled areas... imperfections show quite well.

I found the finish good enough to continue. Or that is to say,I am afraid the tweaking it any more will not make it better. I masked the engine and cockpit with some packaging sponge. Gear bay was masked with wet tissue and Micro Mask.

Very interesting aircraft! It looks more advanced than the I-16. I assume it is a later model?

Seeing this makes me want to get one in 1/32 scale.

Yes, it is a direct development of the I-16. They wanted a bigger engine but because of the the fuselage was lengthened and the wing had no sweep. All in an attempt to keep the centre of gravity correct. Prototype one and two crashed. This is a model of prototype three. There was also a small series production of 12 planes.
Since this is a very specific aircraft that was refitted with different tail, paintwork and canopies I really ya e to check my references often.

And the painting is done! Four layers of red. Done with a Duplicolor spraycan. I warmed the can in hot tap water before spraying for a higher pressure and better atomisation.

That red is lovely! I’d like to have a Chevy Chevelle SS that exact color, it’s sexy. Very nice!
