The VW world can get harsh for correct equipment on the old ones. The worst ones are when it comes to the bus, barndoor and split window versions. I had a 58 (first year of the rectangular window/post oval) and the people hoarding parts and the prices they wanted got ridiculous.

Well, started this guy. I like the kit a lot. Typical of Tamiya, good detail and lots of small parts. Discovered that I have trouble seeing black parts alignment pins on black parts.....It is also fun to paint black parts black.

But you still got it none the less! Depending on if you are building a Bug off the show room floor or one after a rally race (what Herby did) make sure that engine looks dirty.

Lookin' really good so far Lyle!
Remember that on real cars that have a lot of black on them that there are different textures and finishes in regards to that color. To bring out a tad more realism use different shades as well as the flats, semi glosses and true glosses to bring depth to the areas that you're working with.
In my 454 SS truck engine bay there was ALOT of black but I broke up the monotony by using the different textures/ finishes to keep it from being boring in there.

Not trying to come across as a know it all. I honestly hope it helps you out Lyle. Check any references that you have and you'll see what I mean with the tonal variations.

I’m sorry. You are fine that wasn’t how I meant that to sound! I am indeed grateful for the advice. Upon studying that picture, which is amazing by the way, I have no idea how I would pull it off. My skills seem to be vanishing faster than I can improve them. Yup are always helpful!
