I've always liked the look of this oddity. BV was an innovator of nautical designs, hence the Bismarck, as well as seaplanes. As odd as it looks to us, air molecules don't care about looks. As long as it is balanced properly with the same wing loading on either side of the center of gravity, looks don't mater. Balancing will depend greatly on the number and weight of the crew to offset the weight of the engine however.
I have been curious how this kit goes together. I built the Airfix 1/72 last year and it was surprisingly detailed for an old Airfix kit, at least the exterior was.

A 1/72 scale version of this is what I should be building because this bird in 1/48 scale is pretty big. BUT....I've been waiting a loooong time for this one.

The boxing:



Sprue Shot: ( all the glass is tucked away in foam packed sleeves. I'll wait to show you those later when I'm ready to take them out). All in all the plastic looks pretty clean with minimal work to prep. This is hell and gone from the Hi PM kit that I had years ago. Hi-PM had the glass enclosure in side halves which was very intimidating. Hobby Boss got it right with a top and bottom split. Needless to say ...the PM kit is GONE from my stash. The Hobby Boss version has a fairly low parts count for as big of a birdie as this one is. About the only difficulties I've read about so far is the prop that has the blades facing the wrong way which either Squadron has the corrected prop for this OR a prop from an Eduard Fw190 can be used. The other mistake is the exhaust ring is not properly positioned ...nothing that a little surgery won't fix.

Decals ( I'm sort of worried about the botches on the underside crosses but may be able to hide it somewhat with some weathering)



and the "goodies". The interior on this bird is the showcase so I'm glad I picked this PE set up in order to take advantage of all that's on display in there.

The mask.....a TRUE Godsend. There's no way I'd tackle this build without it. No...…..WAY.

Thank God it came with masks! I was going to ask.
It should be a right sized bird when completed. The interior looks good, are you going to get some AM belts? The 1/35 Hobby Boss Storch I did a while back had good interior and engine detail but just screamed for more.
That's interesting about the prop. I had read that a few months back but had forgotten about it. I didn't know you could replace it with a 190 prop though.

could the underwaing crosses be notched for the wheels? Those spots look deliberate....But, I only have one eye.

Bruce: I'm not sure what name / style it goes under buddy.

Steve: It did NOT come with the mask set. I wished it did though. These are Montex masks that I got after the fact. Just couldn't do it without 'em on this build.

They are in fact Lyle. What I was referring to was the blemishes that can be seen on the black portion of the crosses.
