The cockpit looks great! The Eduard bits really help to dress it up. Can't wait to see the IP and the oxygen regulator.

Thank you John. The oxygen regulator can be seen in the first photo, not the best but better than just a hollow circle that Tamiya had there to represent it. I'll try to get a photo of the IP up soon, I want to show it with the quickboost Revi gunsight mounted on top. Hope to get that painted tomorrow.

Small update got the fuselage closed up no problems only a few small pin pricks like gaps to fill. When I added the panel behind the cockpit I ended up with a rather big gap on the left side as you can see. Not sure how this happened since the fuselage is closed up nicely and not pushed out any at all. I filled the gap with a piece of square stock shaved down to size then smoothed it over with some perfect plastic putty.
The fuselage was glued together using Plast-i-weld (like Tamiya extra thin but a bit hotter) working a small section at a time letting a bit of melted plastic push up into a bead. After that has completely dried just simply go back with a new #11 blade a carefully trim the bead off and sand smooth.

The wings and tail was added next (The wings are them pokey bits sticking out the side Bruce ) The right wing had just the slightest gap to be filled and the tail also had one.
I find this to be the best way.
1. lay some tamiya tape along both sides of the gap
2. add some Perfect Plastic Putty
3. smooth over
4. let completely dry
5. remove tape
6. sand flush.

So I primed all the parts with Tamiya fine grey primer yesterday. Today I mixed some Tamiya Nato Black and hit the panel lines then sprayed some random patterns. I mixed in a little Tamiya Flat Earth into what was left of the Nato Black in the paint cup then sprayed the rubber tires with it. The airbrush was flushed out and some Tamiya Flat Black was mixed up and using a circle template I sprayed the rims of the tires. Also I sprayed the engine assembly. The parts of the engine that remains black was masked off with Tamiya tape and blue tack. I then sprayed Alclad II Duraluminum onto the engine. Flushed the airbrush and filled it back up with Alclad II Exhaust Manifold and gave a light coat to the rear part of the engine. The airbrush was flushed again and Alclad II gunmetal was loaded into it and I sprayed the gun barrels and the Revi gun sight.


I think the engine is looking good at the moment, I got a bit of clean up to do on it. Followed up by some detail painting then plumbing and wiring on it.

I was thinking I was going to be using AK Real Colors paint on this one but yesterday when I went to get the paint off my paint rack I realized I didn't have any of the colors needed in AK. Back when I first order some of it to try I got some armor colors and some RLM for what was going to be my next build out the time (not sure what that build was going to be now). So I will be using Life Color paint since I got all the colors I need, it's not terrible to use and it's color matched really well.

RLM 65: Underside
RLM 71: Left wing and Fuselage.
RLM 82: Right wing and Tail

Wow Clint!!! Blowin' right through this one dude. Great job on the gap filling as well and glad you didn't have a whole lot of that to deal with....but then again....It IS a Tamiya kit.

I’m following, Clint! I’d like to learn more about the tire painting, actually and I need to read what your wrote over again. I still have the Trumpeter Me109 G10 Kit that I plan to “Floki cockpit paint” on tap, but I could use some ideas on those wheels before I screw things up. Sincerely, great progress on the kit!

Always happy to help Bruce! I would say the mixture I used was 1 part Tamiya flat Earth to 4 parts Tamiya Nato black. I didn't do it this time but I also like to add just a touch of Tamiya field grey to give a bit of a green hue to the paint. If you look at rubber you will see the slight green tone in it. I will post photos of the tires once I get them weathered and attached to the landing gear. I've been adding less photos of in progress parts since I'm running close to my limit on flickr. Does the place you use have the option to arrange your photos into albums?
