I’ll post more photos. I have primer on the wings, tail fins, fuselage and cowling. Tonight I was thinking I would assemble the cockpit, and I need to review Lyle’s project to see what he did. Even though the plastic is a terrible color, it has a beautiful hard smooth finish which is a zillion times better than soft textures for painting.

Just found this Bruce and I am also thrilled to see you building again. This is going to be an interesting subject and I have to echo Carlos about that yellow plastic! I'm glad you primed it first, that is much easier on the eyes. I've always thought the Gee Bee was an ugly plane, but I am always keen on watching a model being exceptionally built. I'm following this now that I found it; looking forward to seeing more.

Thanks to Kari, Duke and Lyle for your comments. I mean this most sincerely. I have not written in awhile about process, so I wanted to correct that. First I do prep plastic and clean the surfaces. I don’t get hung up on clearing flash away just yet. Also I love the instructions.

Yes, my modeling brothers, that is what I’m gonna do. So first I needed to establish two coats of white primer. Note I also primed the interior of the fuselage as well (not shown).



Next I started working on the tabs for the wing panels. Again I love the instructions.

“Check for proper fit and adjust as necessary.”

So out came the flat file, and a vigorous grinding on both top and bottom surfaces of the wing tabs. This was a little tricky because I could easily over do it, losing both alignment as well as stability.



I was spot on with one and “close enough for now” with the other. The gap is from missing pressure fit; a little glue will hold ‘em both true!

Good idea to prime in White first... much easier on the eyes...
