Thanks! All Y'all just missed the show. . . like Tootie Fields getting undressed in a phone booth! Me, trying to box up a couple of large kits. Also reminded me of the scene in Tommy Boy of Tommy trying to change in the airplane bathroom. Sheesh.

Looks like a nice Mustang model to me! Very striking with the checkerboard on the nose. The US sure wasn't shy about garnishing their aircraft with bright markings!

Not shy at all. Once air superiority had been achieved in 1944, the bigger problem became unit identification for assembly before and after battle. So the striking markings were needed to tell wings and groups apart from one another in the air. Once the simple colors were taken up early by the original fighter groups in theater, the more elaborate markings came along for the newer groups.
