How you gonna do the mottle?

Well with my current situation of single-action a/b running off of canned air, main fuselage camo will be masked with putty. Once the mask is taken off I'll be spraying the mottle through cardstock masks.

I do find myself looking at the pics thinking I should've added a little purple to my RLM75 mix.

Sat around after supper last night, feeling crappy, watching some pre-Remembrance Day programming on History, the wife went to bed early and... BAM!!!! Burst of energy!!!!!! Putty masking done for the main upper fuselage camo...

Next up, mottling.

Good man! I haven't had a burst of energy since, uhhhhh, errr, never mind. Paint is looking sharp.

Top bird looks good...bottom bird has a demarcation line that makes less sense than when the former Republic of Yugoslavia was carved up...

Manny, that super-low demarcation line on the Hasegawa kit, the Papagei Staffel must have had some bored crewmen who were aspiring artists, or former housepainters? I did find this pic, a little rough, but it seems to show topside colours all the way down the side:



That being said, it doesn't look super-solid, I'm thinking maybe a little bit of RLM 76 mottle near the bottom may be advised?

Photoshopped? Fair enough - I doubt "Blitz72.com" really had a sign on that airfield.

Mottling in place, will look at them again with some coffee in my system, as I finished these up kinda late last night. Alright, WITHOUT the headache I might've taken pics after each colour stage, but I didn't, so there!!! [bitch]

The green seemed a little thin, some mottles around the tail looked a little water-colour-ish. Added some green + light aircraft gray on the fly to thicken things up, seemed to recover alright from there.


And what did I use to produce this mottle you ask?? Point-shots with the lowly single-action, syphon-feed airbrush and some cardboard masks.

Top bird looks pretty good but IMO you mottled the vertical stab too much...What part of LESS IS MORE didn't you understand? What happened to YOU CAN ALWAYS ADD BUT YOU CANT TAKE AWAY!!!
As far as the second one...I'm not getting the brown lines at all...reminds me of the putty and red-oxide primer some late-war aircraft had one em when captured..mainly 162s and 262s...
