I love the concept of a discussion grenade and always learn whenever you gents sound off. The Spitfires, like their American cousins The Mustangs, were certainly aesthetically beautiful aircraft and shared a beautiful engine—whether it was hand built by Rolls Royce or assembly line built by Packard. It was Marius that pointed out to me that the 109 was a Benz and the 190 was a Beemer, which I never really considered as such before but certainly based on engine that’s true.

LOL!

It's one of those timeless debates isn't it, what was the best aircraft of WWII - or the most important - it probably varied between when and where in the war you're talking about.

From the Allied point of view, the most important aircraft was probably the DC-3 or PBY.
