Bruce knows me very well! My gray was taken from looking at one particularly “well-lit” reference photo, and he knew I wouldn’t have been able to live with it if I saw a photo of the engine displaying what the color looks like under the proper conditions. Also, the instructions which call out XF-19, “Sky Gray” and I now believe this a misprint.
On further review with Bruce, including looking at a perfectly-lit reference photo from the factory, we determined that XF-18 was almost dead-on:
So I masked, and re-painted. What I did was, I mixed XF-19 and XF-18 1:2, thinned it, and went to town. This is a much better match. Here’s what I got:

Much better! Although a semi gloss finish on the crankcase might be a good idea as well...
And you can’t go wrong with The Cult. A very under appreciated band.

Yes! Do you use Future floor polish... or whatever it is called? You could paint that on and let it cure in a ziplock or you could spray semi gloss... but yes, engines have a sheen, the sheen from the metal... good, good work!

I don’t have the floor polish, but I have a nice semi-gloss I can use on this that’ll look lovely!
