I have been off a few days from the bench. Me and my wife Nathalie took a brief but relaxing two nights mini vacation in a place called Heuvelland in Western Belgium. Very close to places like Ypres, Passendale etc. For those of you who are interested in WW1, those names tell it all.

My replacement decals are on their way, though not too high changes they would arrive before Christmas.. resulting the build is a little bit stalled at this moment.

However, was able to start with the bits and pieces..

Bit of a PITA about the decals but what else can you do at this time of year but wait, mind you, it's good to get the bits and pieces done.

Remco aka BorgR3mc0 came with a real Christmas present for me, sharing the link to Hyperscales web page regarding Eduards new decals and one concrete method to use them successfully.
That was really a hit and I spent some time this Christmas day morning at my bench.

Indeed, the carrier film comes really easy off, before soaking the decal in water.


And here we go


To be totally on the safe side, I used Mr. Mark setter to easily move the decal on the surface. The decals are extremely thin and all precautions need to be taken to avoid that it brokes. Which happened to the first roundel, a piece came off.

Luckily there is a double amount of decals, so there are backup decals for this build. The next Zero will have another scheme (--> from the decal set I ordered a week ago.)

But extreme care needs to be taken with these decals, that's for sure a fact!

Kari, that sounds very similar to how decals printed on an ALPS printer behave when they are not coated with anything after printing. I wold recommend only warm water, and not any kind of setting solution, to move them from the paper to the model. I do pre-treat the model with Microset before applying the decal sometimes, but not always.

I have now added a few decals with the carrierfilm, using only pure warm water. Now I will let it dry over the night.
