Man I love this photo! I know, the color is all washed out, and it’s over exposed... but it’s REAL! Not somebody trying too hard with their computer... a great bit to note is the dried dirt & mud all over the running gear, while the camo scheme is moderately visible on the hull. And then the pine boughs... great stuff!

That 10th Panzer Kfz.250 from Life Magazine is great too! Funny how they left that one in gray and did not paint it in tropical colors. But the Jerry can is in a tropical color...

Excellent photos sure is alot of inspiration in them.

... but what are those two things he is inspecting?

Those look to be the vehicle’s headlamps that he is inspecting. At least that is my best guess based off of the photos. That is the same vehicle as in the color photo, the headlamps are not on their fender mounting posts, and they look to be the same size and shape... they also appear to have some sort of fabric black out covers.
