The only idea I have at the moment is to grind down the top stepped edge. See the arrow?

Wow that's a nasty step I would thin one side down a bit and build the other up some.

Thanks, Clint. I am going to try your idea. I am also thinking about using ye ole hot water trick to try spreading apart the Lower Nacelle sides more. Maybe the combination of these ideas will be a "One-Two Punch."

That's a nasty step you got there, Bruce! One of the headaches you encounter when you start gluing pieces together. I'm glad to see you getting past the fitting stage and actually setting glue to plastic... a true milestone in this build. I hate those step-gaps the most. I guess the first thing I'd determine is which surface is the one you want to work off of and go from there. I personally think it would be easier to get a good result building up the bottom to match the top as opposed to shaving down the top to match the bottom. If there is a good bond between upper and lower, Milliput would be a viable solution. After placing it, you can use water to sculpt it to match, which reduces the amount of coarse sanding you'd have to do.

My "to-get-a-3D-view-of-the-Do-17-so-I-just-assembled-it" - Revell (tooling from 1969) had actually a very good fit in pretty much all pieces.
Some filling and some sanding would be of course needed

perhaps I will paint it entirely to look like wood, like those miniature airplanes standing on tables, bookshelves etc..

Bruce I would try to fill this step in the lower side with plastic and a lot of glue to make it weak until the lower half is almost matching the upper side. You can make those plastic pieces from heatet and then pulled sprues. After applying use filler also to sculp. Then sand the contours to a smooth surface.

I’m copy-pasta’ing that into my notepad for times when this might happen to me.

To all—I just got in from video shooting in the desert. I took a shower and after I dried and changed I came here hoping for ideas! Haha. I still have to transfer/drop box a bunch of video, but I already told the producers not to expect anything from me until tomorrow as I still have to convert AVCHD files to QT. Plus, the whole sleeping issue? I’d like to get some! Still here I am. Thinking. And I am grateful to you—all of you for your ideas. I am grateful. Also, Kari—that looks like an incredible project! What a great idea to create a natural wood!!!!!

Note: I need natural light with these 1/72 projects.





So. There is one final notion I have to run past—why not soak the lower nacelle in hot water and use a piece of sprue cut sized to spread the diameter wider? However you are all right about building the bottom wider. I see that now. (John, Marius—Thank you so much!)
