Your detail work is superb John!

This is what I like most about your builds attention to the littlest detail. The wash on the tires looks perfect.

The best! Certainly the most realistic set of landing gear I have seen at this scale. Superlatives only will do.

Thanks guys! At this scale, on components this small, the airbrush will only get you so far. I needed to add some smaller stains that were scale appropriate and I chose to do this with pastels. Oils would be another option but I'm more comfortable working with pastels. Getting closer to the paint stage. I've been painting the landing gear doors as a ramp up to the major painting stages so I'll see how that turns out first.

I know it is never "perfection" but this is perfection!

I've procrastinated long enough and have built up enough incentive to start painting. I've painted the landing gear doors and have a better idea of how I'm going to treat the black undersurfaces.


The model is prepped for painting by cleaning off the exterior surfaces with a clean cloth damped with Windex. The nose gear bay is filled with wet tissue paper and the main landing gear bays are covered with the kit part that depicts the closed doors. FWIW that part does not fit very well.


The undersurfaces is given a coat of Tamiya AS-12 Silver decanted from the can. The areas that I am thinking of chipping (mostly around the nacelles and frontal fuselage bottom) will be given a coat of hairspray prior to the black.



The upper camo will be treated a little bit differently and will have chipping by hairspray restricted to the wing root area. So that area is given a coat of AS-12 as well.

Looking quite nice. Your paint is always a treat to see!
