John, I am using Mr Surfacer White 1000 as a primer. Heavily. To the point where I was watching for edge flare. Then I polished the surface. Sanded with 2K Tamiya abrasive. Then I primed again.
This is first coat of black. I think it is all I need. UV gloss clear after it cures. Actually just checked and Robot 4 Less sent me UV Coat Flat. Argh. Either I screwed up or they did. But I know there is a high gloss UV Coat and I want to finish this with it if possible. Or floor polish. Or floor wax. I’m not sure yet. But I want to buff this surface to a high gloss. Maybe I will use everything above. The kitchen sink approach. Ideas would be most welcome!

I sprayed the control stick in navy blue to see the flash and imperfections better. Time to slice and grind albeit gently with appropriate finesse.

Thanks so much, Carlos. I keep waiting for something to happen as the paint cures so I finally tied the stick down onto a distant shelf, so I would stop myself from looking, handling, and potentially harming the finish myself. I also ordered from Brookhurst Hobbies for the first time. Tamiya semi gloss and Gunze/Mr H red paint pencil.

Thanks so much, Stuart and Tom. I’m looking forward to finishing the instrument panel. I was thinking initially that I would used a drill bit to create the textured finish of the aluminum back plate. I tried this, but I was having trouble making it look to scale. Then I thought I would take Mr S 500 and stipple the finish with a stiff brush. Now I’m not sure.
