I got a few minor fills and some sanding to do on Black 1. I didn’t feel like doing that today. Felt like working on Marga a little bit! Check her out:





The mounting arms are dry-fit on there, and I have to tighten up the paint on the tanks a little bit. Also, I’ve been kicking around some ideas for the plumbing, making it out of stretched sprue and making it modular in design, so that it comes off when the top of the engine + mounting arms + gun deck assembly comes off in order to display it with the cowling closed. I bought some solder in various sizes, but man oh man it ain’t malleable enough for this application -in my opinion- and I have no idea how I’d attach two pieces of solder together. With stretched sprue you can use Tamiya Extra Thin. Here’s a mock-up from yesterday, starboard side plumbing:

One thing though- it’s “sort of” removable. It’ll be affixed to the mounting arms, like on the genuine article, and it’ll all come off together when the subassembly that makes up the “top” of the motor, mounting arms, and gun deck are removed.

It’d be a lot easier if I could just affix it all to the motor it’s self somehow, but then switching any tine I want to closed cowling display wouldn’t work.

It’s actually been really fun to think on and try to engineer a way to work with it!

As I said earlier, I bought some for this application, but these things are segmented and fused together in various places, and I have no idea how I’d go about attaching them if I used the wire. Sprue is easy- Tamiya Extra Thin. Also, the lead wire/solder I bought isn’t malleable enough after all, I’ve discovered. It keeps breaking when I bend it at right angles. So I dislike it.

Try copper wire or brass rod. Both are very malleable. I don’t think that aluminum rod is available in that small of gauge.

I used copper and aluminum here on my T-55 for fuel lines on the external tanks.
