Well you can extend it just a bit by putting weight effect on the tires! It's a small touch and maybe not noticeable to many but I like the impression that it gives. Different ways to do it but I find it simplest to simply sand a flat spot on the tire.

I don’t think I’ve got the skills to sand those down whist they’re now attached. But I will keep that in mind for the future. I like the look of yours. You did it just right. The tires don’t look flat. They look just right.

This is looking great.

The 109 tyres are difficult to guage where to put the flat spot prior to fitting, owing to the funny angle. It isn’t directly on the bottom but offset to match the gear angle. What I have done in the past is secure some low/medium grit sandpaper to the desk and holding the assembled kit firmly but gently by the actual wheels, moving it slowly over the sandpaper to create the flat spot. It is a slow process but little by little a flat spot appears. Work slowly, maybe just one or two passes at a time.

Yeah, the splayed stance of the 109 is tricky when it comes to that flat spot. On my 1/32 G-10 build, I eyeballed it, got the approximate angle and then used the play between the axle and wheel to let the tire rest on the flat spot as the glue dried.

I was able to conceptualize what I wanted to do based on your advice, execute it, and achieve a pleasing result. Thank you for taking the time to break that down for me, John. I really appreciate it.

Not a problem, my friend! The great thing about sharing techniques is the individual touches we put into them. I'm sure your exhausts look a little different than mine and I think that is really cool. The internet has really revolutionized all of my hobbies, modeling included. There's no way I could've progressed as modeler without the internet... so much information out there and to receive it while in the process of a build... amazing.

Also, I moved my entire base of operations out here to the hole in the wall. It’s not just for painting anymore. I figure it like this. Now that my kids can open doors, move all the paints and thinners and gules and stuff out of the house. I’d rather them break into my office and mess with my ukulele and maybe break a finished model than have them chewing on paint pots or drinking Mr. Leveling Thinner or Tamiya Extra Thin. And this is fine. I am quite happy out here. “Hole In The Wall Scale Models.”

The great thing about Coors, aside from the taste, is it’s versatility! You can drink Coors and you could probably thin paint with it. Conversely, you can thin paint with Mr. Leveling Thinner but I would strongly advise against drinking it.
