The splinter drapes are made from rolled up hammocks. They reduce the splinter ricochet from exploding shells and bombs.

Fantastic work on the photo etch! I followed a build in a German forum some years ago that had as many mindblowing details added as yours has and will have. Maybe you can find something useful in this very photo rich thread:

After this and the North Carolina, I'm considering either the Bismark or Graf Spee. I had built the Tamiya Bismarck years ago but it was lost at sea during one of my many moves. I wish I had the Scharnhorst as that's my favorite German heavy, Prinz Eugen is my favorite cruiser. Here it is depicted at Bikini a day before bomb test Able. I completed it back in 2016. It's now safe in a museum here in the Boise area. I Iook forward to viewing that link. I'm always excited to learn new techniques and try them out. Must get better MUST GET BETTER! Just kidding, I don't take much too seriously these days.




here is last nights work. I am just test fitting the deck to make sure everything is fitting. I had to snip about 2 to 3 mm off the girder section to make it fit right. Hasegawa made alignment pins to set the deck. Thank you Mr Hasegawa! No one will be able to tell and the pillar aligns to the deck fine so, off to the races. There are still some more girder work. It looks to be walkways or something, so I'll finish the pillars then on to the walkways. I have the middle deck to do after that but it doesn't look too difficult.
BTW, those boxes are searchlight elevators. The searchlights were elevated to the flight deck for use.

There are a few mistakes but it's so complex no one will ever see them. I wouldn't want to redo it anytime soon that's for sure.

Like I've said before, the amount of PE work is just insane and you do such an incredible job on it.

Having one of your models displayed at a museum is quite a thing. Very cool and well deserved. You're a very skilled and patient modeler. It's a joy to follow your work and a pleasure having you as a member here on SPAM.

OK this weekends data dump. I worked on and off. I have 79 hours into it now. The Zero took 9 of those hours, but now that I did one, I get faster as I go. Not that I have any complaints with the detail kit but I do wish they added drop tanks for the Zeeks.




The canopy was more difficult that I thought it would be. Cutting out for the interior and the canopy/antenna were to toughest and too the longest. Now time to paint but I'll do that when I have the AB out for other things. The wheels are turned brass.




Moving on the she ship. I completed the pillars and added the crane tracks. I dry fit the deck to check the fit. Looks good. Now I need to add the cable stays but am also continuing on to the kits instructions and the additional paper detail set. There's still some girders needed to add to the fore/aft sides and the mid deck.




Also, I didn't like some pillars hard molded on the kit so I am replacing those.




That's all I got done this weekend.
