The metal portions of the seat are done. I debonded the lap strap in preparation for the slightly darker shade of brown I am using for the cushion. Why do this? Two reasons—the Eduard “jeans pattern color” is as John stated, “Purple.” In my head I was trying to get the most subtle mix possible but in the end that would be too light for the dash. Plus, I was going for realistic “used” finish and I wanted to try out a few ideas.

John—Thanks so much! I ordered more Eduard PE—the placards. That is gonna liven up things inside the pit.

Color reference

Man, I hate to see you deviate from the right color choices because of the inaccurate colors that Eduard uses. I’ve seen some paint out the Eduard stuff to make it match instead of the other way around. But I understand what you are trying to do. I’ve done it myself.

Be careful to use the correct time frames for photo references. Those late war 190’s probably have a different palette of colors than your A-1.

Great points, John—especially about deviating from the RLM66. The changes are being done with an acrylic-graphite paste which I will be able to reduce or remove if things get too funky. I need to peek at the seat again in daylight. Also great point about color photos... I found this belly shot—although it is a Stuka I mean woooooaaaah! That’s color reference!

I can't tell which ones are authentic color and which have been colorized. That last Stuka pic... if I were to guess, is colorized.

Great point, John! I am trying to weed colorized versions out. I think the flesh tones give it away. Perhaps this one. I am trying to get a sense of how the factory finishes evolved from usage.

You did a great job on that seat, too, and you seem to have nailed the effect you’re after.

I like the He 177 widdow maker very much. Such an unusual aircraft...
