I now have the bumper primed in gray and have the TS-14 black painted on. Will need to wet sand the corners of the bumper and then apply some gloss to round things out in the coming couple of days. After that I'll give the Alclad another shot.

On an additional note I spent about 30 minutes in the paint booth with the hood for the 4th time. The first coat was enamel and wasn't that great so I stripped it and repainted it. After the second painting (which was dang near perfect) I found this X-7 Tamiya acrylic that I was going to use on the body and it didn't match the red on the hood so off it came again. The third time was with the Tamiya acrylic application, which after ALOT of wet sanding and TLC, was on the road to perfection.......until the flame job. Flames went on flawlessly but after I applied the enamel clear coat over the flames they cracked so here we are at the 4th time around on this sucker. I have yet to figure out the deal with the cracking but I think I've managed a way through it. The body did the same dang thing to me and I wet sanded the flames on the body down smooth and applied a coat of gloss clear. I see one more round of wet sanding and I'll throw on another coat of clear on it. It looks PERFECT except a minor cracking blemish at the flames. It's gotta be compatibility issues is all I've gotta say. I'll get through this.....mark my word. I've been on this sum beech for 7 months now and there aint no turnin' back.

Just to show that I'm still pluggin away at this ol' mule I snapped some shots of the most recent gloss coat this morning. There are still a few traces of cracks but I'm going to be wet sanding that out and polishing that all out with the Novus. I believe this will be the final coat of gloss on the body. I managed to shoot the same coat of gloss on my hood.................again!!! Hood has the same shine as the body here.







If you look closely you can see the flames where there isn't a shine. It's what I was aiming for.....a VERY subtle hint of flames.

Wow - that's a lot of work on the road to perfection! It's certainly paid off though as it looks superb!

All I've gotta say is that when I did the gloss coat on my Challenger build a few months back either 1.) God was with me , 2.) the stars were all lined up just right, 3.) Hell did in fact freeze over or 4.) it must have been pure dumb luck because this paint job here has given me a run for my money!!! I'm still in the fight and aint giving up though!!! This morning I wet sanded all the minor cracking I saw in the gloss finish over the flames on the body and polished the heck out of it with Novus 2. I also repainted the flames on the 4th friggin paint job on this hood and will be letting that all gas out for 3 or 4 days before attempting another gloss coat on it. The roof got a wet sanding and polishing as well and I glued two retaining screw heads onto the rear license plate to tidy that up a little. It was a busy morning since 3:30 a.m. and I got to spend 4 solid hours on this thing so I feel like I got a lot done with it.

I ended up lightening the pics up a little so the flames can be seen a little better. Under the right lighting these things jump out at you.



You can see where the finish is a lot smoother in this photo particularly at the front of the fender area. I'm surprising myself with these results.



The flames on the hood came out better this time around IMO because I thinned the decanted paint a little more and got it to come out a little smoother.



Here's a shot with everything installed as it's gonna be. So far I've got good feelin's about this time 'round.....

Keep going 'stang! You have the right attitude here, just show the gloss coat who has the real stones!
