Thanks Clint! I appreciate the compliments on Dora. She's my armor Magnum Opus. What you saw in the rest of those pics is the result of some 49 years of almost constant model building.

Carlos, thanks! Dora is indeed quite the model and one of my all-time favorites. As to how everything fared during the last Ridgecrest earthquake, I really barely felt anything at my place. I was home for both of them and since my house sits on a huge granite slab; all I felt was a little bumpiness followed by what felt like five minutes of gentle rocking back and forth. Nothing in my house moved during those quakes; they were too far away to do any damage to my place. The Landers quake in '92 was a real shaker, but even then, I had minimal damage. One aircraft on one of the topmost shelves on the East Wall fell off the edge to the shelf below. It lost a propeller blade while the model it fell on lost a landing gear. The most severe damage to models I had during a close shaker (Whittier Narrows???) was when the hook holding my An-12 Cub was shaken out of the ceiling, causing the plane to fall straight down and break in half; as well as damaging the landing gear. No propellers were damaged with that one; I'd never glued them in place so they simply popped out on the way down. You can see she's been repaired and is hanging on a joist now.

Duke, that's quite the Dora build. Great story.
I'll have to get those pictures of the Musashi and post them for everyone. I took some dark pictures for posting to simulate underwater but I have some pics in regular light somewhere :hmm:

PS, I'd hate to have to paint that room.

Scale Plastic Aircraft Modeler member interview

Mike Gordy aka Medicman

1. First model kit?

Hmmm.....that's a hard one. I pretty sure it was a Revell kit. Probably the Revell A-10.

2. Preferred scale?

It's always been 1/48. I think that's a good size. Not to big and not to small. I do some 1/72 ones as well.

3. Preferred subject or subjects?

That's easy. I'm the jet guy. I like most all jets but prefer the more modern ones.

4. Favorite model built to date?

That's a tough one. I have about five that I'm really proud of. I think my Stryker MEV is my favorite though.

5. Hardest model built to date?

The Mech I did was the hardest. The way you build and paint them is completely different than I'm used to.

6. Holy Grail kit?

It's not out yet but the coming soon MV/CV-22 Osprey in 1/48 that Hobby Boss is doing.

7. Favorite kit maker?

Hobby Boss. Yes they have shape issues but 99% of the time they go together so well.

8. Favorite glue or glues?

Tamiya Extra Thin and Zap-a-gap super glue

9. Favorite paint?

Lately it's been AK Interactive and Ammo of Mig paints. I really like AK Interactive Real Air Colors. They are my real favorites right now.

10. What started you as a modeler?

My love of aviation!!!
