Thanks Bruce! I do enjoy the look of Luftwaffe splinter camo, but it usually takes two to three sessions to get those edges and corners right when done freehand…
The past few days I got the upper rear fuselage glued in place, some seam work done (but not enough to quite fix them without remove surface detail), and lastly the horizontal stabilizers glued in place along with the brace struts. I also did some touch up paint work, as well as getting the canopy dipped in a Future bath…
I now need to mask of the canopy panes and paint the frame work, finish painting up Herr Möldy Wiener among a few other bits of detail painting, do a tad bit of tough up paint work on the tail around the brace struts, but then it will be ready for a gloss coat and decals…

Thanks Bruce!
I got the decals applied this afternoon… but I had not stored them properly in a zip lock bag so they did not come out 100%…
I have to do so repair touch up work on a few of them.

Carlos! This looks wonderful even with the shredded decals! I definitely want to feature this on the FB page when you’re through with the project (and if you’ll let me!). It’s such a great take on the subject, and it represents a kind of perspective that comes out of the car culture of the Seventies in California, which is near and dear to my heart. It’s a Hot Wheels designed Galland 109 meets Tom Daniels meets Hawk Weird-Ohs subject and you certainly have given it the right “finish fetish!” I’d love to build this one!

Thanks Bruce! I’ll be breaking out the paint pens for the decals touch up/repair work. The wingtop cross closest to the camera is the one that came out the worst, so once that one is fixed, the rest will be far less extensive to fix. Revell decals are not too reliable to begin with, and having these stored for 15+ years in the open in a garage, with no protection from temperature and humidity variations probably sealed their fate. I have to be more cognizant of that on some of my other old projects like this. I may be shelling out big bucks on replacement decals for similar projects if I do not.

Carlos, What’s your approach with a paint pen? Which ones do you use? I would probably have mixed gouache and used a very good artist’s brush to fill in areas. I’m not sure how you would get a hard line without masking; I might use a piece of typing paper to form an edge. How do you do this?

Bruce, I'm not sure how I would describe my technique, but perhaps as akin to using colored pencils. I use the tip for small areas, but then angle the paint pen on its side as if sharpening the point for larger areas and those needling a straight line/edge. In this case I used some Gundam fine tip paint pens, since all I needed was black and white, and those colors were in one of the sets that I have.
here are before and after photos of my efforts from earlier today.
I also worked on painting the canopy framework and on most of the flesh and detail work on Herr Wiener Möldy
The flesh tones look more subtle in person

That is really an interesting process and well done! I think at that size I would have made masks but I can’t argue with the results I’m seeing here! Bravo, mate!

Thanks Bruce. It’s not perfect, but looks good enough. Masks would be an alternative, but I would be terrified of the masks pulling up the original decals. I’ve had too many mishaps of that sort in the past.

I love it!
I did come across this over at scalemates during a search on B-52 Stratofortress kits.
I so do want that kit!
