Ha!
Let’s not forget ships... carriers, battleships, cruisers, destroyers, subs, sailing ships of all kinds. Give in to the dark side....

I got back on this one this morning and made what I'd like to call some decent progress on this bird. I've been on this one now for 3 years and the whole reason that I stopped building on it in the first place was because of the cockpit to fuselage installation. I braved it this morning and got it installed. This was a MAJOR hurdle overcome in building this kit.

Thanks fellas. I hit the snag that I've been deathly afraid of all along with this kit and that was a
really bad lip / overbite at the very top of the fit between the two.

It was enough to make me consider ditching the whole thing but I'm using filler and trying to make my way through it. After recovering from my "aw sh#%" moment and thinking about it, it should be nothing that a little sanding and repainting can't fix.
The way I look at it, if I can take this:
and graph in another section of wheel opening from a '54 Chevy Panel Wagon:
and smooth it out like so:
Then I can most likely handle this.

You'd think that, given it's such a visible mating part (e.g. the top of the fuselage) the manufacturers would have really tried to get that right.
I'm sure you'll sort it out though - just like you did on the Vdub (which was cool as BTW).

Thanks Stuart. It's pretty much a mission of mine to conquer this build now. You know , the construction of this kit in every other aspect is very very simple and straightforward. It's just this part of it that has got to be one of the kookiest designs I've ever seen and the hardest to work with. If this part isn't right then it sort of gives the whole build a "black eye" because the cockpit area is the main showcase of this aircraft. I just can't wait to work on an easier aircraft build.

Yeah I can understand that - it does look like a pain and I wonder why they broke it down in this way?

Especially if (as you say) the cockpit is a major feature.
