We had some battalion runs that probably qualified as such... long and slow... of course you’re young and fit and in PT gear, so off you go... and on the hump, my web gear had two 1 quart canteens, plus a 2 quart on my ruck.KennyX wrote: Oh man. Yes, at that time I was the Platoon Leader’s driver/RTO. Drivers for tracks were assigned an M203 as their duty weapon. And if we were dismounted as here, you gotta hump the radio too. The basic radio was not too bad, but if you add spare batteries and the scrambler device, the weight adds up quick.portman wrote:I do feel for you though - you had to hump the M203 AND the radio!
Thanks... no badassery, simply numbness... your feet go past pain and you really can’t see it there, but the uniform is sweat soaked... that was probably temps in the low to mid 80s with humidity to match... Actually we were all marching the same way. I took a few photos, gave my camera to the guy behind me and was walking backwards while he took my photo. I think that I still have a photo of him somewhere... but yes, it can evoke mental images of the foot soldier of any era since soldiering began. Only the weapons and clothing change.KSaarni wrote:
