I do like the instrument panel in the 'after' pic much better! Those decals surely make it far more realistic!

Keep it coming Bruce! Plasto-therapy is good for you to keep you from dwelling on things like this. It's working for me, along with the meds and counseling from my doc for depression. You got this man!

So I did a fast black and blue paint job with white glue and spit assembly on the engine just to see what’s what, alerted by Lyle and the “destructions” that the cylinders won’t fit inside the cowling. So now what. Shave the height or take down the base of each cylinder and try to maintain an even height all around. Or look for a tasty Russian resin Wasp Jr, and start over? Edit just because I had a sudden realization that I canNOT change the cylinder height from the base without destroying the alignment of those silver pipes (intakes?) spaghetti noodles?



PS there’s some lint on the edge of the cowl. My normal method of wrapping parts in tissue paper ain’t gonna cut it. Also yea that’s an apologia because as a photographer I should know better.



Paints: Tamiya Bare Metal Silver, Tamiya Gloss Black, Gunze Robin’s Egg Blue. Note: I have the outer assembly/crankcase cover upside down in the photo. Another gaffe, but easy to correct with the white glue assemblage.

Them pipes make up the induction manifold, Bruce. Gee Bee is looking good.

How about sanding out the inside of the cowling? Or is it a major fit challenge beyond that?

John! Thank you for your explanation - I learn so much from you, sir. Thank you for putting up with my food metaphors. I don’t know what these things are but I’ve been scratch building for two hours and I’m in a very strange place. We know that place, right? I feel content, if that makes sense. Also very aware of the micro-sphere. The world is in miniature.

Good evening ladies and gents, it’s a cold, bone chilling desert cold night in Los Angeles, and I’m cold too. So here goes tonight’s recap. Kitchen table build continues - K&S .020 Brass Rod inserts after I reamed out whatever those nubbins are that hold those. Tie rods, maybe? They feel structural. I finished but I paused to take the photo before I mounted the last two.



Also - so my madness makes some sense. The grey crankcase cover is loose and I have only glued the brass to it and not to the cylinders around it. So I remove the part and make my trims after the glue cures. I’ve already tested this on five spikes so far. All good.

And yea, I should learn proper nomenclatures ASAP.

What the? The engine doesn't fit in the cowling???

What a bummer. I would hack/grind down the tops of the cylinders... won't be visible given the cowl shape.

That's what I would suggest too. If the engine is even you could put it on a spindle, stick in a drill chuck, spin it and hole a sanding stick to the outside?
