Thanks guys! I find that I spend a lot of time fixing painting mishaps. Some small, some big but almost all of it is done with the airbrush. I've become accustomed to very small, 1-drop, applications of paint through the airbrush as it allows the most seamless repairs possible.

Work on the painted markings continued today. Mixed in with household chores on this holiday, of course. Trying to replace the kitchen faucet and I can't get the old one out! I decided to do the remainder of the RAF roundels in one go.


Generally speaking, I worked from outside to inside, ending up with the dark red in the centers.


There were a few areas where the paint pulled up. All of it on the blue, which makes sense because I think I jumped the gun and applied the masks on the blue a little too soon. Again... the patience thing rears its head.


I spent the rest of the day conducting spot repairs on all of the masked markings. Still have to do the individual machine markings by masks as well as the black walkways at the wing roots. But here is where we are at currently.

Heat the faucet up if you can, and tap the joint with a hammer while you try to turn it, John.

I think being a good modeler may have more to do with skill in fixing problems than in getting things right the first time. Requires more patience than I can usually muster.

Thanks guys! Didn't need a hammer but the locking nut under the faucet had rusted. It came with a PVC tool to tighten it into place, which I had in my tool box, but it ended up cracking. Because the nut is threaded unto a section of pipe and the tight space where it was located, I couldn't fit a normal wrench or even use a basin nut wrench. I almost gave up and called a plumber. A search on Amazon led me to a tool...


I got same day delivery but it arrived too late last night for me to try so I gave it a shot on my lunch break today. Whaddyaknow... it worked. Pretty nifty tool with metal inserts on either end for different sized nuts and driving options (i.e. hole for a screwdriver handle, ratchet connection, etc.) Will probably never use it again! Getting the old faucet took the most time and effort and putting the new one in was relatively easy. I'm not the handiest guy but was glad I was able to do this one on my own.
