As I have been away for the last 6 days and not able to get online, it has been nice to read all these posts tonight and will now post my own!
Unlike most, I never modelled when I was a child and have come into the hobby pretty late.
I would say I never got into modelling before as none of my friends were ever interested in the hobby when I was growing up so I was never really exposed to it (although, it does transpire that my Uncle used to model when he was younger, but had since stopped due to his medical condition).
After I left school and started working, I started to gain a keen interest in WW2, so through watching many documentaries and reading many books led to the fateful day that would eventually change my life. I went on a day out with a few of the lads from work to the Imperial War Museum in London and whilst I was there, decided to buy myself an Airfix Spitfire Mk.Vb Starter Set in the gift shop.
This kit would lay on the top of my chest of draws for a few years until I started doing shift work and having split up with the then girlfriend was up during the night before going onto a Nightshift with nothing to do, so I then remembered the lonely little Spitfire in my bedroom and decided to give it a bash.
From then on I was hooked, I went to the nearest model shop I could find and came across a couple more kits which peaked my interest at the time, a FW190D Starter Set and Sturmovik.
There was no stopping me now and after these kits were bashed together, I just had to get more and the more I built, the better I wanted to get, which is where I found my first (and until this year, my only) Forum in 2012, where through looking at and participating in the Group Builds I gained more experience and more knowledge, which have led me to last year building my first 1/24 scale build and also my first tank and am currently putting the finishing touches to my first diorama at the age of 31.
I've had such a great time building, it's flown by, so much so, that until a FB "Memory" popped up for completing the FW190D popped up, I realised I've only been modelling since 2010, when I thought I had been building at least a year longer, maybe 2!
So that's my story and long may it continue (as I now have excess to 180+ kits in the stash and counting, I think I'll be modelling for some time to come yet!)
