Just found this. Brilliant work Lyle! Way to go! As for the two boom assemblies, build one; wait about three or four days, then build the other. After three or four days, it becomes only one build, so no messing up!

Not sure about brilliant. Just put my socks on the wrong feet. Boy, that guy was mad.

I think I’ll be starting the other boom tomorrow. I’ll probably leave some stuff out. Lots of fiddle that can’t be seen.

Lyle.... before you close up the booms, I came across a tip regarding weights to keep the P-38 on its nose. Most instruction guide says put the weights in the nose. Dont’. Instead put them in each boom behind the engines.

Tom, the kit comes with weights and wells to hold them, so, that is what I did. I usually stuff weight anywhere I can.

On the Monogram P-38 kit, since the nose has a full armament in the gun bay, I had to get creative on pacing the weight. Putting lead birdshot in the spinners is what made a difference.

Yup. On the Monogram Lightning kit. Didn't know the Tamiya came with weights.

I don't know what changed, BUT, I was able to get a good trace on a copy of the Tamiya masking stickers....and able to cut a set with the Silhouette cutter. I think it was because I opened the scanned .jpg file in Photoshop and then did a copy / paste into the Silhouette program At anyrate, I'll take it. The light blue are my cuts. I had started trying to cut the Tamiya masks from the sheet. Doing the happy dance.



Booms and tail are on. Still fascinated at the ways they engineered the fit and locating devices. Pretty neat.





As we'd say in the South, "I thowed some primer at it." Intentionally spotty and such. I am hoping that adds a bit to the Alclad Aluminum. it is the black Alclad primer.



Finally, I wanted to show the weight deal on the booms, Tom was curious (I think). This is one of the main gear bays.
