Hahaha! I have never been part of FSM, but I heard the campfire stories from others here. So in short no humor was tolerated? I had to look up “jocular,” to learn the definition. I take research seriously because it’s a way to learn and honor the past, but I’m never too serious about my own work. Like the story about writer Rod Serling who was caught pounding a model into pieces by his daughter. “What are you doing, Dad?” He threw the model into the trash. “I’m relaxing,” he said through gritted teeth.

Humor was tolerated. Just grumpy old guys like me tend to shoot their mouth off. Ya know the type... the GET OFF MY LAWN! crowd.

LOLed at the Rod Serling story. Good one!

Thanks for the intel, Tom. Internet forums never really interested me until this one. I have learned so much from everyone here in a relatively short time. Our forum reminds me of the way learning was done where I grew up - if you wanted to learn fly fishing or how to repair a carburetor there was always someone somebody knew who could share the knowledge with you just down the street. My figure painting skills came from Mr Billy, himself a steelworker of Croatian descent who taught me how to use glazes on Aurora monster models. Guys With Basements & Skills. Glad you liked the Serling story.

PS. I’m plotting the project which is more than half of the fun.

Wow Bruce, it is so thrilling to follow another of you r build threads again! It's been too long for me! Incredible history, research and other information that has taught me so much more. I'm glad to know where 'mojo' came from.

That story of Rod Serling was hilarious as well. I love hearing stories of famous people and their experiences with building models.

Now that I found this and caught up, I'll be watching this closely... at least whenever I can log in to read this Forums!

I miss coming here directly from my e-mail to read threads I'm following. I like that system because I go straight to the newest post in a thread instead of clicking on the one and searching for where I left off to find the newest post.

Mark! Good to hear from you. Thank you for visiting here today. I still am thinking about how to photograph over 800 pieces of your collected models. I still think by breaking down into smaller units and focusing on individual stars there will be so much more interest as well as make any photographer’s job easier. There’s a term used in advertising called “insert-worthy.” You have to ask yourself what you consider the most important subjects or groups. Only you can answer that question! All the best!

Instructions

1.) Remove blades from mold block. Shorten shank. Clean up blades. Sand small standoff from rear of spinner.
2.) Carefully drill blade mounting holes deeper. Test fit blades.
3.) Paint blades and spinner separately.
4.) When dry, assemble with 5 minute epoxy.
