That's what I would suggest too. If the engine is even you could put it on a spindle, stick in a drill chuck, spin it and hole a sanding stick to the outside?

The thing doesn’t fit and needs to be taken down some, ‘‘tis true. I woul not chuck it in a drill, though. If it catches on the sanding material, cylinders will go flying..

Stuart and Lyle, thank you both. I’m going to reduce the tops of each cylinder very carefully and concentrate on adding visible details. It’s clearly stated in the instructions that fitting is necessary and Lyle wrote about this during his build cycle. I don’t like resting the cowling on the cylinders from an accuracy standpoint, truly, but I did begin this project just to build a subject I actually love, and something without guns on it truly appeals to me at this moment in time.



Marius shared a video of a P-51 flying with a Schwalbe. Incredible to see a Schwalbe in flight today or any day. My thought was of how the design was intended to be used as a fighter bomber but it is still beautiful. His reply was so good that I am going to add it here with I hope his permission!

First off: I'm really sorry to hear about your girlfriend and her mother. Hopeful and prayerful that both of them have a trouble free and speedy recovery from this.

Secondly: That really sucks about the engine to cowling fit but also know that where there's a will.....there's a damn way. Looking forward to the recovery efforts Bruce.

Wow I didn't know there was any 262s that was still flying! I'm off to youtube now lol

If I recall correctly, the flying 262 (s - I think there're more than one) isn't an original WWII machine, but a totally brand new aircraft built to original plans and upgraded with modern engines and avionics. They did the same with some FW-190s.

4 hours of gluing and cutting plus one coat of Tamiya Extra Fine to reveal warts and all (small hairs, alignment issues, CA glue bobs)





I am gonna bring this Wasp Jr. as close as possible to our standards of detail. Still debating ignition wiring. Not sure yet. Oh, and Big Duke! I slightly textured the crankcase cover with Mr Surfacer 500, using a fine makeup applicator tip.

Next up: height reduction. So it goes.

Thanks, Mark and Mike! I’ve been listening to my Barry White albums while detailing this piece. Fortunately I kept the ring of spikes loose so I can begin reduction safely by removing the entire piece beforehand. Cheers.
