Status update:



After stripping areas - pretty much every visible area was reduced to make a repair easier - I removed the raised sections (red highlights), sprayed MM enamel primer and I am letting the part cure inside a take out box.

Looks like a good, clean, thorough removal to me. Nice.

Thank you so much, Ken! Hey—I have a question. What color blue should I use for an oxygen bottle? Brand, etc? I thought I could mix the blues that come with Testors military sets, but the jars are fused shut (Question 2) and I am struggling to twist the caps off. I have tried tapping, hot water, a towel, pliers. Thanks in advance!

I’ve had good results with a hair drier. Just turn it on and aim it at the twist-off lid and let it heat it up a minute or two. Just be careful. Technically this could also be an efficient and effective means of starting a fire. That’s the irony. This method is great for opening old paint jars *AND* burning your house down.

As to the blue, I am actually not sure! Lemme noodle that one!

Were luftwaffe aircraft oxygen bottles blue?
Something that I had not considered before...

According to this site, various and sundry items like oxygen bottles were whatever color the manufacturer painted them, and that was usually blue:

tanks, oxygen bottles, etc. were in the color applied by the manufacturer. Radios were usually black or gray, fuel tanks were usually black or gray. Oxygen bottles were usually overall blue, or painted with blue stripping.

As to what shade, seems to me that leave plenty of wiggle room to select any nice blue that blows your hair back.
