You’re just about at the home stretch now! Those swastika portion decals look easy enough to deal with.

Well... the decals are not going to work. They are much too small to be used; I speculate that when the decals were first revised these small swastikas were an add-on. Well I am not going to use ‘em so there goes getting this done by Sunday. I did finish the fuselage mottling though; one major “I don’t know if this is going to work” item was crossed off this evening at 9:45 PM PST. Time to hit the recumbent bike for 45 minutes and go catch up on episodes of the Clone Wars.

One option - order these decals - the hakenkreuz are standard size black and white for the fins

Maybe ask the fellas... does anyone out there have spare 1/72 swastika decals with white borders that would be the appropriate size for the 109K? I'll check my spares box but I doubt I have anything in 1/72.

Thanks so much for a great idea, John. I checked eBay about a week ago to see if there were any insignia sheets, but I should have asked here if anyone has two standard size black hakenkreuz with white outlines. I almost started a mask, but the 2 part mask, size and complex paint surface underneath stopped me. At least now I can catch my breath, a little.

Here is a paint question for you specifically because it is interpretive based on your knowledge. As you pointed out, there is an area (possibly done when the trim tab actuator was installed?) on the tail fin that is an over painted series of “repair bands,” covering the factory camouflage. The best image of this painting detail I have come across on another K series is this eBay auction frame:



I added arrows and a simplified drawing of the “Reverse L” configuration of the painted areas. It looks like either by repairing and adjusting the actuator linkage and mass balance (or both) the areas were spray painted in some color I don’t understand. The profile would have me paint RLM 76 or RLM 65 on the areas, in a series of two patches; actually three, I think there is another lower section patch, as well:





I believe you mentioned that the color as indicated by the profile may be in error, and I would agree with you, but what color would you choose? Thanks in advance.
