BMF on the rear of the Phantom is always the first thing my eyes are drawn at. This is coming along nicely.

The Sidewinders look good.

Did you ever decide which squadron markings you were going to use? I can’t remember if you mentioned it here earlier...

What’s really cool about modern aircraft... especially USN types... they often fly with more units and change markings.... take this F-4J you chose, Bu. No. 153882

In 1970, VF-96
Image

In 1973 with VF-92

At some unknown point with VMFA-232

In 1977 with VMFA-235

and (probably last) rebuilt into a F-4S with VF-302

:hmm: That's really interesting. Even today a lot of airframes get passed around like that.

The older an airframe is, the more time it has to get passed around. And potentially wear many marking schemes as a result. I can only imagine the history of some older long serving aircraft types like a B-52. They literally have guys flying those now that were flown by their grandfathers. And have worn multiple schemes from NMF over White when first built to the all gray scheme of today, with multiple schemes in between.

Great choice on the yellow tailed bird Mike! I still can't get over how many stencils these aircraft had!
