Very well blended weathering all around! Looks fantastic!

Thank you guys so much! Sincerely, thank you! I’m stoked about this project. And I’m excited to wrap it up. The finish line is on the horizon.

The oils topside are still curing. They’ve mellowed just a bit, and I’m pleased. So she’ll get another clear coat, and then a panel line wash up there, in the next day or two. As to the bottom, I’ll be doing a panel line was down there as well here soon.

I’m going to work on addressing the undercarriage and gear as well over the next few days.

I thought Van Dyke brown would look nice as a panel line wash. I went with a “pin wash and localized sludge wash” methodology, on this. I’d work on applying the oil paint wash, then either clean around the area with a cotton bud dipped in mineral spirit, or I’d brush the wash backward with the direction of airflow, then clean a bit, and so on. I like this color choice.

Thank you sir! I like that Van Dyke Brown with the olive gray. Brings out the olive in it. Not sure if that would be an appropriate wash color for a carrier-based Zero, but I’ll noodle that a bit, because I’d really love to see that in the rivet and panel line detail on my 1:32 Zeke.

Small update today! Along with spraying clear topside on Zeke, I set about prepping the struts and gear bay doors, and flaps, for black and Aotake respectively. Basically I used AS-12 as primer. After that dried, I sprayed the Aotake color where applicable, then patiently let that dry, and then clear coated all of that. Here’s the results so far:



So relatively on-schedule, I’ll be working on the landing gear over the weekend. I’d like to get that buttoned up relatively soon. So that’s that for now. I’m gonna be a patient modeler and let the clear dry for the rest of the day before I monkey around with any of this stuff. I can paint the struts, that’s fine and maybe I’ll get to that today. If not, tomorrow definitely.

I'm really enjoying watching this one come together as there's so much to learn here in the weathering world. I will say that I am surprised at all the ejector pin marks that this kit has being that it is a Tamiya offering but that they are in areas that can be concealed by other parts. I built a 1/24 scale Trumpeter Bf109 a few years back and that thing like to have drove me nuts with those things.
